Coach
Eugene Burroughs
Eugene Burroughs is a highly experienced basketball coach, player development leader and former Division I star who currently serves as Head Coach of the Princeton Day School Varsity Boys Basketball team. Additionally, Coach Burroughs supports the School as Admission Associate and Athletics Liaison in the PDS Admission Office.
With a more than 20-year career coaching at both the collegiate and professional levels, Coach Burroughs brings a tremendous amount of coaching experience to the Panther Varsity Boys Basketball team. Most recently, Coach Burroughs worked in the NBA’s G league as Associate Head Basketball Coach of the Aqua Caliente Clippers in Ontario, Canada, and Head Basketball Coach of the Delaware ’87ers (now the Delaware Blue Coats) in Wilmington, DE, after spending two years as a Shooting Coach with the Philadelphia ’76ers.
His 18-year collegiate coaching career included assistant coaching positions at American University, Hofstra University and Marist College, and associate head coaching roles at the US Naval Academy and Penn State University. At Hofstra, he was an assistant for current Villanova Head Coach and two-time NCAA Tournament winner Jay Wright. Coach Burroughs was a talented player in his own right as a former Division I team player, captain and NCAA All-Rookie Team selection at the University of Richmond. A graduate of the Episcopal Academy outside of Philadelphia, he also has a deep appreciation for the role athletics plays at a top-tier independent school.
PDS Athletic Director Katie Fay stated: “I’m thrilled to be able to bring a coach of Eugene’s caliber to Princeton Day School. He has had great success coaching at both the collegiate and professional levels, so he understands what it takes for players to compete at the next level and how to get there.”
Seraphine Hamilton – Camp Director
After stints coaching at the Peddie School, St. Andrew’s School (Del.), William Smith College, and the Newark Academy, Hamilton came to PDS in 2019 to teach English and lead the girls’ junior varsity hoops and soccer programs.
In 2020, Athletic Director, Katie Fay, asked Hamilton, a 2006 graduate of William Smith College who played both soccer and basketball for the school, to take over the program as Varsity Head Coach. “It was a nice opportunity for me, it had been a very long time since I had been a head coach,” said Hamilton.
“We have some pretty clear values; we value family and inclusivity. For each value there is a definition and the standards are ever changing. There are really tangible things so that if someone comes in and watches us play they should know that we care about each other; they should know that we care about the effort and things like that.”
Hamilton achieved high standards as a student athlete, starring at soccer and basketball at the Peddie School before going on to play both sports at the next level for William Smith.
In the PDS Upper School, Hamilton serves as a class Dean and English teacher. In addition to leading the Girls Basketball Program, she is also an assistant coach on the Girls Varsity Soccer Team.
